I am writing to express my genuine interest in the possibility of completing a clinical preceptorship under your guidance as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner student. I am flexible to work under the supervision of either a PMHNP or Psychiatrist, eager to glean from your wealth of experience and expertise in the field.

My name is Hazzauna Underwood, and I am currently enrolled in the Nurse Practitioner program at Gonzaga University. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New Mexico State University and also possess a background in Human Development with a minor in Child Psychology from Washington State University. With this comprehensive educational foundation, I bring a diverse range of skills and perspectives to the nursing profession.

With 16 years dedicated to critical care nursing, my journey began in the emergency department, followed by significant roles in trauma care at Harborview Medical Center and as a Trauma resource nurse at Providence Medical Center. For the past six years, I have been deeply engaged as a Rapid Response Nurse at Swedish Hospital, specializing in emergent care for cardiac, stroke, and rapidly declining patients. My proficiency spans from initial assessment to intervention and ongoing patient monitoring.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I am deeply passionate about mental health, particularly within the neurodivergent community. My personal experiences as a mother navigating resources for my four neurodivergent children have fueled this passion and underscored the importance of accessible and compassionate mental health care.

As a fitness enthusiast and outdoor enthusiast, I understand the significance of balance and resilience both personally and professionally. My ultimate goal is to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, specializing in working with neurodivergent children and their families.

The clinical preceptorship I am seeking is attached to a psychiatric mental health nursing concepts course. This course delves into advanced practice psychiatric-mental health nursing, covering essential topics such as scope of practice, therapeutic relationship building, differential diagnosis, and clinical interventions across the lifespan.

I firmly believe that your mentorship and guidance would greatly enhance my learning experience and professional growth. The skills and knowledge I acquire during this preceptorship will undoubtedly contribute to my effectiveness as a nurse practitioner.
