Medicaid and OTC medications

Products in the following classes will not be covered effective July 18, 2011:

Analgesics

(excluding pediatric formulations of acetaminophen such as liquid, drops and suppositories used for fever in children through 6 years of age.)

Cough and cold products

Allergy medications, including non-sedating antihistamines

*Vitamins/Minerals including calcium supplements/TUMS

*Iron supplements will continue to be covered for all participants. TUMS and other antacids will continue to be covered for children under the age of 21. Prescription strength Ibuprofen will require prior approval and patients will be expected to purchase OTC Ibuprofen for their analgesic needs.

The department will continue to cover products in the above classes, with prior approval, for participants living in community-based residential centers, including Supportive Living Facilities (SLF), Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA), Sheltered Care Facilities, and other small group homes that are not skilled or intermediate care facilities.

The department will not accept prior approval requests for any other participants.
